1982 & 2016 alias history repeats itself
In the history, it happened once that a female player won the Aussie-US Open double: in 1982, Chris Evert completed it. However, even more interesting the way how she did it regarding the fact that Angelique Kerber did have a chance to repeat Evert’s feat 34 years later. Alike Evert, Kerber accomplished the same.
Let’s have a look at these two historic milestones in parallel view:
In 1982, Chrissie won the Australian Open* defeated the No.1 player, Martina Navratilova by 6-3 2-6 6-3.
In 2016, at Australian Open, Angelique Kerber beat the No.1. player, Serena Williams by 6-4 3-6 6-4.
In 1982, Evert lost against the No.1 player, Navratilova in the Wimbledon final.
In 2016 of Wimbledon, Kerber was beaten by the No.1. player, Serena Williams.
In 1982, Chris Evert won the US Open against Hana Mandlikova (Tchechoslovakia) by 6-3 6-1.
This year, Kerber became US Open champion and the runner-up was Karolina Pliskova from Czech Republic…
